These days we take CGIfor granted, with almost every modern movie, and video game full of spectacular digital effects, and animation. Here is footage showing where it all began.
In 1972 Ed Catmull (founder of Pixar) and his colleagues created the world’s first 3D rendered movie, an animated version of Ed’s left hand. This is the film that they produced. It includes some “making of” footage (around 1:30) and some other early experiments. The CGI footage would later be featured in the 1976 Sci-Fi feature film Futureworld. It would be another 33 years before the first feature length film made entirely with CGI, Toy Story, would come to theaters in 1995.
